Junior School
At Magdalene Catholic College, our Years 7–10 curriculum provides a strong foundation for academic success while nurturing students’ spiritual, social, and emotional development. Grounded in Catholic values, our approach encourages students to explore their potential, develop critical thinking skills, and grow in faith and character.
The junior years focus on developing essential skills, fostering curiosity, and preparing students for the challenges of senior studies. Our curriculum follows the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirements, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging learning experience across all key learning areas:
Core Subjects (Compulsory for Years 7–10)
- Religious Education – Deepening faith, understanding Catholic teachings, and engaging in service to others
- English – Developing literacy, communication, and analytical skills.
- Mathematics – Building problem-solving skills and numerical fluency.
- Science – Exploring scientific principles through inquiry and hands-on learning.
- Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) – Studying History and Geography to understand society and global issues.
- Personal Development, Health, and Physical Education (PDHPE) – Promoting physical well-being, resilience, and healthy relationships.
Elective Subjects (Years 9–10)
In Years 9 and 10, students can choose from a variety of elective subjects, allowing them to explore their interests and develop new skills. Options may include:
- Creative Arts (Photography, Visual Arts)
- Human Society and Its Environment (Commerce, History Elective)
- Modern Language (Italian)
- Performing Arts (Dance, Drama, Music)
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (Child Studies, Physical Activity and Sport Studies)
- Technological and Applied Studies (Design and Technology, Food Technology, Industrial Technology (Timber), iSTEM,, Textiles Technology)
Faith and Wellbeing

Co-Curricular Opportunities
Students in Years 7–10 have access to a diverse range of co-curricular activities, designed to support them in developing skills and experiencing opportunities beyond the classroom. A variety of co-curricular activities, including music ensemble, drama ensemble, debating and representative sports allow students to develop their talents and broaden their experiences.
