Magdalene ISSDC students recognised on the national stage

Following our students’ participation in the 2025 International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, it has been incredibly pleasing to see their efforts recognised at both Federal and State levels.

In Federal Parliament, Dr Mike Freelander MP recently spoke about the Magdalene team, acknowledging their journey from national champions at the Australian Space Design Competition through to representing Australia on the international stage. His address highlighted the scale and complexity of the challenge, where students worked alongside peers from across the world to design a large-scale space settlement under real-world conditions. He spoke highly of the students’ professionalism, dedication and the way they conducted themselves throughout the experience, recognising the value of such opportunities in shaping future STEM pathways. At a State level, Sally Quinnell MP also acknowledged the team in Parliament, recognising their success and the pride they brought to the Camden community. More recently, Isla Attard and Angelina Bampton attended an afternoon tea hosted by Ms Quinnell alongside myself. It was a very well-run and genuinely enjoyable event, where Sally warmly welcomed and recognised a number of outstanding contributors across the local community. It was a privilege for our students to be included in that group and to be acknowledged in such a setting. Both students represented the College with maturity and confidence throughout.

The team has also continued to share their experience within the local community. Mr Avalos, Lachlan Campbell and Lachlan Chadwick recently presented to the Rotary Club of Gregory Hills Next-Gen, providing an overview of the competition and their journey. The students spoke exceptionally well and represented the College with confidence.
